Subtitling and subtitle translation

Subtitling and subtitle translation are very particular skills requiring not only translation expertise but the ability to work within time and space constraints and an understanding of the way spoken dialogue is converted to the written word. This webinar presents an overview of the different types of subtitling, techniques used by translators, how to get into the field and the software required. There will also be a short demonstration of the subtitling process. 

The presenter: Marga Burke

 Marga Burke has extensive experience in the subtitling industry, first as an in-house subtitler for the deaf and hard of hearing, then as a freelance translator. She now translates and subtitles from French and Italian into English and teaches part time on Leeds University’s MA in Audiovisual Translation Studies.
