Claire Cox studied French and German at the University of Salford in the early 1980s. On graduating, she was desperate to become a translator after a brief spell of proofreading in a Stuttgart-based translation agency during her year abroad, but ended up making a foray into the world of graduate banking schemes instead. Soon realising her mistake, she was delighted to be offered a job as in-house translator with British Nuclear Fuels plc and joined them in 1984. She hasn’t looked back since, going freelance in 1989 and still working predominantly in the fields of nuclear technology, energy and health & safety.
