I was born and educated in Germany.
Following a year of studying Japanese in Japan I moved to London in 1986 to work for a Japanese company as a political and energy economic researcher.
After obtaining my Diploma in Translation in 1992 and joining the Chartered Institute of Linguists I became a freelance translator.
For 8 years I served as Hon. Secretary of the Management Committee of the CIoL, set up their German network and developed their TransNet group, both of which I still moderate today.
In 2014 Mecki and I set up Iolante Freelance Translation Services.
