An Insight into what legal translators need to know about the law, the legal process and their role within it
The language of law may appear incomprehensible and untranslatable, but actually it is not. However, the world of legal translation is rather different from other kinds of translation and translators who do not appreciate this are unlikely to succeed.

The trainer chose four different texts for this translation workshop: a confidentiality agreement, an extract from Articles of Association, a definition of different homicides under German law, and some advice on exclusion clauses.
Having been called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2002, Richard has worked as a lawyer in both Germany and England, as well as a specialised legal translator from German into English. He has lectured on DE-EN legal translation at City University, London.
