Introduction to Terminology Management

Technical communication relies on the use of standardized terms and names of the respective field. As translators, we are required to find the correct equivalents in our target language. Once we have done the research, we don’t want to do it over again for the next job.
In this webinar, we will cover how to document terms and names to retrieve the information again, no matter whether you use a terminology tool or what tool you use. We will cover:

  • The most important information to document;
  • The best way to document nouns, verbs and adjectives;
  • One way to document terminological data outside of a specific tool.

This is a webinar on basic aspects of terminology management. No prior knowledge is required.

Barbara Inge Karsch is the owner of BIK Terminology, a terminology consultancy and training company.

As consultant and trainer, Barbara works with companies and organizations on terminology training, terminology development and implementations of terminology management system (TMS). She holds a lectureship at New York University and is a US delegate to ISO TC 37. Barbara draws heavily on her 14-year experience as in-house terminologist (English and German) for J.D. Edwards and Microsoft. She completed both a BA and MA in translation and interpretation and has done PhD-level research in terminology management.
