About the Video

Maximising your Professional Development

Doing CPD is relatively easy – we sign up for a webinar or a workshop, go to a lecture or enrol on a course, read articles, familiarise ourselves with new software, or attend a trade fair or exhibition. How many of us, though, go beyond just recording the activity in our CPD record booklet and actually reflect on it – what we expected from it, what we’ve actually got out of it, and where we go from here?

Reflecting on our CPD isn’t just good professional practice – it is also a requirement for those applying for Chartered Linguist status or Fellowship of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. This webinar will set out some of the reasons why we should all be aiming to be a “reflective practitioner” and will introduce some hints and tools for successful reflection.

This video contains:

  • Why should we be doing CPD in the first place?
  • Isn’t it enough just to do CPD?
  • What is ‘reflection’?
  • What are the benefits of reflecting on your CPD?
  • How to go about it?
  • Resources

We have collected some of the comments from the webinar viewers from the previous site. Here is one of them!

Reflection is quite an abstract topic, and difficult to communicate in such a short time – the writing exercises, especially with the repetition, were very useful.
