Registering for VAT for UK freelancers. Why it makes sense.
As translators and UK freelancers, we at eCPD regularly follow the discussions by fellow translators on translator forums. Recently there has been a lot of debate about whether or not freelancers, whose sales turnover rarely meets the UK’s generous threshold at which registration becomes compulsory, should register for VAT.
But translators are increasingly encountering problems with their EU customers because they do not have a VAT ID. However, many are reluctant to register because they fear the administrative effort involved.
We asked our accountants to put together a short online presentation to debunk many of the myths and misapprehensions that have grown up around the whole issue of VAT for small businesses.
The webinar outlines the considerable advantages of being registered for VAT, explains how the paperwork can be simplified and kept to a minimum, as well as how to invoice customers in the EU. It shows how being registered can actually save your translation business a lot of money and enhance your status in the minds of your EU customers.
