Technical Writing for Into English Translators

Superb writing does not tend to feature highly on the list of technical translator’s skills. The focus is usually on subject-matter expertise or methods for terminology research. While these are important, good technical writing is also crucial. What’s more, it’s a skill that can be developed quickly and easily, and to maximum effect on the quality of your translation.

This session will give practical tips for ‘into English’ technical translators, with a view to producing higher quality texts that convey information effectively, precisely, clearly and briefly. Become the translator you aspire to be!

Dr Karen Tkaczyk is a British/US dual citizen, married to a French/US dual citizen. She grew up in the UK, mainly in Scotland, and now lives in the Denver, Colorado area. After her PhD she moved to Ireland to work in the pharmaceutical industry there (development chemist, lab to pilot to manufacturing validation batches). In 1999 she relocated to the USA. She worked as QA Manager in a small topical medical devices and cosmetics manufacturer until 2001.
