Consec-Simo as a tool for Consecutive Interpreting
Whether you are a conference, business, police and court or public service interpreter, technology can be employed to improve your consecutive performance. This video will introduce you to a hybrid mode of interpreting that combines elements from consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. Different forms of this mode will be introduced. You will learn how to turn your tablet into a notebook with an edge. With a couple of minor additions, your own smart phone can add another string to its bow. Apps turning speech into text and how those could benefit your consecutive interpreting will be reviewed. We will discuss the advantages and see if the disadvantages are worth it.
For many interpreters, consecutive interpreting is a bit daunting as it involves taking notes and deciphering them while being on the spot! If consec is not your favourite or strongest mode of interpreting, this video will help you to up your game. This video is suitable for both practising interpreters and interpreting students.
