Technology advancement and patent translation
This presentation focuses on the development of technology in relation to patent translation, especially the use of technology at patent offices, covering the latest ‘artificial intelligence’-based translation tool, terminology databases, and machine translation tools. The benefits and downsides of these patent translation technologies are analysed. The impact of technology on patent translation is discussed in terms of the objectives and purposes of using technology in patent translation and supported by facts and figures from patent offices.

Yvonne is an Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University and an affiliate academic at University College London. She received her MA in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Bath and her Ph.D. in Translation Studies from Newcastle University. Her major research interests include patent translation, translation technology, and translation pedagogy.
